Looking for a little low key Valentine’s inspiration? Your big date doesn’t have to include dinner at a formal restaurant or a big fuss at all. With just a few styling tricks, you can pull off a gorgeous (and easy!) Valentine’s dinner at home.
Believe it or not, you only need three essentials! Follow our guide with just three elements, and your tabletop design will come together in a snap:
Place Setting: of course, the place setting is key to your tabletop décor. No need to go over the top and purchase anything new; instead, look for creative ways to use what you already have. Maybe it’s time to pull out that fine china that never gets enough use, or perhaps you can add a bit of detail to your everyday dishes. To make any dish set look luxe, follow our easy guidelines:
Layer: what’s the easiest way to add visual interest to your dishes? Layer them! Place your salad plate atop the dinner plate. You can even use a charger if you have one handy, or put your soup bowl on top of the plate ensemble. Mix and match, or keep it clean and simple with pieces from the same set.
Napkin: here’s where you can add a bit of personality! The way you fold your napkin adds a lot of visual interest to the tabletop. Lately, we’re loving a tri-fold napkin wrapped vertically around the dinner plate, with the salad plate placed on top.
Flatware: you can never go wrong with a formal setting, but don’t be afraid to mix it up! For a modern approach, tie your utensils together with a silk ribbon, placed on top of your plate ensemble.
Candles: the quintessential décor element for a romantic Valentine’s date. Use any candles you have at home to create ambiance and set the tone for an intimate dinner. Whether you group a few pillar candles, scatter smaller votives, or just light a simple jar candle, you can’t go wrong.
Floral Centerpiece: A floral arrangement takes your table design to the next level. However, it doesn’t have to be fancy to be elegant. Greenery is a huge trend right now—forage a few leafy stems from your backyard, and group three candles together on top. Easy! Or maybe your sweetheart will bring home a gorgeous bouquet… you never know, but it can’t hurt to have a vase ready just in case.
With these three staple items (that can probably be found at home!), you’re ready to host a beautiful Valentine’s dinner for two. Be sure to snap a few photos of your styled tabletop… we would love to see your creative approach!
Cheers to all our past and future couples! We hope you enjoy a wonderful Valentine’s Day, however you choose to celebrate.
