Well, hello there! Are you a wedding professional that LOVES to do styled shoots? Do you have a styled shoot coming up that you haven’t put together yet? Well, Im here to tell you, you CAN do it!
On Monday, Meggie from Meggie Burr Photography and I put together a styled shoot super last minute!! Around 5pm we were thinking that the weather was just so good to pass up a quick shoot, so after contemplating for about 5 seconds, we decided, lets see if we can do it. Well let me just tell you, without the help of a few different people, Blaine (my brother) and Mary (my sons last minute babysitter), it would not have gotten done! Cuddos to you both!!
WARNING!! You must be creative, quick on your toes, and a multi-tasker!!
Step #1- Find your perfect location! Think of one of your favorite parks or fields (preferably one that is free!) and pick it! For ours, I picked a large park in my neighborhood with a small lake in the background.
Step #2- Pick your theme and what you want to showcase! There are so many themes and colors you can pick from, but just pick your favorite, because, really, you don’t have much time to think about what you’re going to do, so go for it! Also when it comes to figuring out what it is you want to showcase, be creative! I decided on a table setting because we got to show many different items we had in our company! That being said, you can always do a lounge area, faux ceremony/reception, greeting table, etc.
Step #3- Pick three main colors! (One should be a white or ivory) In this styled shoot I’m sharing here, I picked hot pink and a soft blue.
Step #4- Run to grab flowers from a local flower shop! In this case, Kroger Grocery was my quick option, but I think they turned out GREAT!! Think quick about what you want to showcase flower wise… I love having flowers at styled shoots, especially real ones, because they give some life to your items and overall feel.
Step #5- Pick up your furniture and items! Before leaving my home (to drop my son off while my brother picked up flowers.. GREAT choice in flowers Blaine!) I grabbed a few items I knew I didn’t have at my storage unit that normally you’d want to rent from a big box rental company like plates, linen napkins, flatware, and cups. So, I grabbed my favorite place settings and threw it in my back seat of my truck and went with it! (Don’t forget to grab water, for your flowers and to hydrate yourself, and paper towels, and flower scissors!)
Step #6- Hurry, Hurry, Hurry to get everything set up ASAP!! We were racing against the sunlight in our situation, which is the “Golden Hour” in the photography world. We were literally running from my truck to the area in the middle of the park to get things done as fast as we could!
Step #7- Relax a minute while the photographer does her (or his) shooting and makes your items come to life! Let them play with your items to create creative shots! Soon, you will have to clean up fast too before it gets too dark to break down, so enjoy this moment!
Step #8- STRIKE!! And…. your done! You can relax now!!
There you go, that is how you pull it off with an hour on your hands! See below some of Meggie‘s images and how she made our items POP!
