“Don’t be afraid to change, change can sometimes be a really good thing!” – Allana Luterman

If you’re in the events industry, you may be feeling the effects of the slow season we’re experiencing in 2020. With events canceled and rescheduled over and over, this feels like it’s neverending. I sat down with Allana Luterman with Tapgoods to dive into this season of slowness, and how we can not only how we can keep our businesses alive, but prepare them to thrive. 

With most of us working from home, or maybe not able to work at all, now is the best time to sit with yourself and do some reflecting. Whether you’re the CEO of your company or a sales associate, we have the time to reflect on not only ourselves in our work, but on our businesses as a whole. You can ask yourself, “what are our weaknesses?” and “where can we profit more?” Allana discusses three points in reflecting and acting to better your business during this season: fully utilizing your website, changing things up where needed, and truly knowing where your numbers stand. 

1. First and foremost, you should have a website. If you don’t have a website with your inventory/services, I advise you to stop reading here and do that NOW. How are your clients supposed to know who you are and what you stand for if you can’t visually show this to them? Stay relevant, please have an updated website. 
2. Don’t be afraid to change things up where needed! Have an inventory that isn’t going out? Sell it. We don’t have room for pieces that you love but aren’t making you money – we call that wasted space. Do some research to find pieces that both truly resonate with you and your brand, and that will be out of the warehouse every weekend (at least, we’d like to hope) making a profit. 
3. Speaking of profit, how are you doing? Have you sat down to check your numbers recently? Have you looked at Google Analytics, your inquiries? If you’re not up-to-date on how your business is doing, this slow season is the time to figure it out before work picks back up again. 

Allana makes a great point regarding shifting the focus of your business this season and “leaving the past in the past.” If you’re having guilt about spending too much money on that new software you bought earlier this year or buying that piece you really didn’t need, I’ll stop you right there. We all make mistakes in our businesses. Use this as an opportunity to reflect, and understand you can do it differently next time.
